School of the Arts Chicago
Mediact partnered with the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago to concept, storyboard, and produce a recruitment spot aimed at attracting new students.
We blended hand‑drawn, frame‑by‑frame 2D animation, 3D animation, and motion graphics, compositing key sequences over live‑action footage to bring campus life and creative practice to the forefront.
The result is a dynamic, visually rich film that showcases the school’s vibrant artistic community.
Challenge
The School of the Arts Institute of Chicago needed a fresh, attention‑grabbing recruitment campaign to stand out in a crowded higher‑education landscape. Their goal was to inspire prospective students by showing the energy, creativity, and real‑world impact of studying at the school.
Solution
We developed a storyboard‑driven film that combined hand‑drawn 2D animation, 3D animation, and bold motion graphics, selectively composited onto live‑action moments to ground the story in real campus life. Using the Adobe Creative Suite, we crafted a fast‑paced visual narrative that highlights student work, facilities, and the school’s creative culture in a way that feels contemporary and memorable.
What we built for this story
The work required moving between disciplines and platforms without losing sight of what mattered. Each element served the narrative.

Concept development & storyboarding
We defined the creative direction and built detailed storyboard sequences that mapped every scene and transition before production began.

Mixed-media animation production
We combined hand-drawn frame-by-frame 2D, 3D animation, and motion graphics, compositing key sequences over live-action footage.

Recruitment hero film
We delivered a dynamic, ready-to-deploy hero film designed to lead the school's recruitment campaign across web and social channels.
