Mediact developed the creative strategy and production framework for a feature-length documentary exploring Malcolm McLaren’s influence on art, punk, hip-hop, and fashion. The project includes archival research coordination, narrative structure development, and international production planning across London, Paris, New York, and beyond.

The Challenge

McLaren’s story spans decades of counter-culture movements across multiple continents with no single definitive visual archive. The challenge was building a coherent documentary framework from fragmented sources while securing rights and access across international estates and collections.

The Solution

Mediact translated archival audio into visually rich, era-specific animated sequences, using distinct art styles to reflect each cultural chapter of McLaren’s life — from 1980s graffiti-infused New York to cinematic Los Angeles. Animation allowed us to portray iconic figures dynamically and cost-effectively, while preserving authenticity and elevating the documentary’s visual language.
